Spiraea japonica
Japanese Spirea
Description
Japanese spiraea is a broadleaf deciduous shrub that reaches 2-3' tall and wide. This attractive plant has rigid vertical branching. Small pointed leaves are green on upside and gray-green on downside. Pink or white clusters of flowers that are flat-topped appear in summer. Depending on cultivar, flower color varies as well as leaf color. This shrub does best in full to part sun with well-draining, moist soil. It's great for erosion control. Prune in early spring to refresh the plant.
