Camassia spp.
Camas Lily
Description
Camas is an Oregon native and member of the Lily family. This bulb plant reaches 1-2' tall and 1' wide. This attractive plant has deciduous, green, strap-like leaves. The flowering stem rises above the foliage in spring presenting electric blue-violet petals with tiny yellow stamen. These bulbs will self-seed if you do NOT cut off spent flower heads. They will naturalize your garden over time. It does well in full sun with wet soil in winter but dried out soil in summer. Does tolerate clay soil. No need to water this plant during summer. Very attractive.
