Description

Chaenomeles speciosa is a deciduous shrub that grows 5' tall and 5-8' wide. This shrub has simple, glossy, green leaves. It requires full sun for better flowering. It's tolerant of different kinds of soil. In late winter, red flowers appear on bare branches. Edible, yellow green fruit (called quince) that are bitter but great in jellies and jams appear in early fall. This shrub has large thorns which provide protection for birds. Little maintenance for this plant. Easy to grow. Prune to remove older branches. Various cultivars have different color flowers.
