Description

A slow growing deciduous tree, the Japanese Zelkova usually reaches a size 50' tall and wide. It does best in full sun. Its toothed leaves are elm-like, dark green and oval shaped. Foliage changes to yellow or red during the fall and is spectacular. This tree starts off in a vase habit, maturing to a wide and open canopy. It becomes drought tolerant with age and is a great wind barrier. Flowers are considered inconspicuous. Bark is smooth and gray but changes with age (becoming rougher looking).
