Acer circinatum
Vine Maple
Description
This plant is either a shrub or small tree that reaches 5-20' tall and 3-6' wide. Height is variable due to sun. It does best in full shade but fall color is attractive when grown in sun but will need much more water. Deciduous leaves are deep green color that turn red-orange during fall if the tree has some sun exposure. Red and white flowers appear in spring on bare branches. The Oregon native is attractive as it's multi-stemmed with heart-shaped leaves. It does best in moist, shady locations but will tolerate sun. Bark can be green or red with tiered branching, similar to Japanese maples. It does best in acidic, fertile, well draining soil.
