Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata'
Upright Hornbean
Description
Upright Hornbeam is narrow when young and pyramidal to 30' high when mature and 15' wide. Small green leaves provide a fine texture to this deciduous tree. Even though there is no central leader, it becomes symmetrical and oval. It does best in full sun with regular watering and well draining soil. Fall foliage is yellow and orange. Trunks are smooth and gray colored. Can be pruned to use as a hedge; prune in late summer to mid-winter time.
