Description
This broadleaf deciduous shrub grows to 4-6' tall and 5-8' wide. It has an open spreading habit because of the suckering. New stems have a velvety or furry appearance, thus the common name Staghorn. Foliage is dark green, long and pointed. Leaves turn yellow-orange and scarlet during the fall which is very showy. This plant prefers full sun with well-draining soil. Remove crossing branches to maintain shape; it can be pruned to the ground. Many cultivars available now.
