Penstemon barbatus
Beardlip Penstemon
Description
Perennial grows to 3' tall and 2' wide. Foliage is long, narrow, green, glossy and deciduous. During summer and fall, 2" long spikes of reddish orange tubular flowers appear, attracting hummingbirds. This plant does well in full to part sun with well-draining, average soil. Established plants are drought tolerant and prefer dry soil. Cut to ground prior to new spring growth to refresh plant. Tip-shear to encourage density. Many cultivars available including Oregon natives.
