Description

3-9' tall rapid rounded evergreen, branches resembling broom straw. Male & females. Females have dense fluffy seeds causing many seedlings. Tolerant of sun & heat & wide of soil. Male selections should be used. Cut back to ground periodically to regenerate new growth. Can be drought deciduous. Native SW along washes & bottomlands sea level to 5500'. Soil tolerant even poorly drained or alkaline. Fast to moderate. Quick hedge. Attracts many butterflies in fall.
